At EVOLVE, our overarching mission is to cultivate a gym culture that transcends conventional norms, where discussions around diets and body aesthetics are purposefully absent. We believe that the benefits of movement, proper fueling, and consistency extend far beyond physical appearances. Our primary goal is to guide our members towards living stronger and healthier lives, both within and outside the gym. To ensure that EVOLVE remains a safe space, we have established guidelines aimed at fostering a positive and inclusive environment. These guidelines emphasize focusing on overall health and well-being, promoting inclusivity, employing mindful language, celebrating progress and effort, and encouraging a supportive community. By steering conversations toward personal achievements, overall wellness, and a sense of community, we strive to create an environment where every member feels welcome, motivated, and empowered on their unique fitness journey.
Embrace body diversity: all bodies belong at EVOLVE
Dialog about your own body or someone else’s can be harmful. Avoiding commentary around bodies and aesthetics can help create a safer space for all bodies. Health and fitness doesn’t have a “look”. Help us foster a more inclusive and supportive atmosphere by emphasizing someone’s character, achievements, or interests instead of their physical appearance.
Build community
Don’t know the person next to you? Introduce yourself and say hi! See someone working hard? Give ‘em a high five!
Refrain from talking about diets and food restriction
We believe in celebrating a healthy relationship with food. Focusing on diets, restrictions, or guilt can have long-lasting negative impacts on your performance, and physical, mental, and emotional health.
Adapt the workout so it is right for YOU
Avoid comparing yourself to others or your last workout. Your body and performance change every day which means your training should adjust to your needs. Remember that you can always make modifications to make your workout feel right for you. Don’t be afraid to ask questions if you are struggling with a movement!
Process over perfection
Sometimes just showing up is all you have in the tank and that is OKAY. Consistency over the long run is what creates lasting change. Don’t expect every workout to be a personal best, focus on the long-term process instead.
Rest is essential, not earned
Rest is not a reward; it is essential to mental and physical health. Exercise is stress, and the only way to adapt to stress is by taking rest. Celebrate recovery along with hard work; you need both!
Ask for consent before giving advice
Before giving advice to a fellow gym member, make sure to ask for consent, and respect the person’s choice and autonomy in receiving guidance. Seeking permission beforehand ensures that your advice is welcomed and appreciated.
Practice good hygiene
Wipe down equipment after use to promote a clean environment. Additionally, be conscious of body odor, and consider using personal care products to ensure a pleasant experience for all.
Keep your clothes on
Taking off a shirt or otherwise wearing minimal clothing can make others feel uncomfortable. Our #1 priority is that everyone feels welcome and comfortable at EVOLVE. We ask that you are not bare-chested or only in a sports bra during your workouts.
Have fun!
Exercise is not punishment, it’s a celebration of what our bodies can do. Find joy in the process of showing up, pushing yourself, and being a part of our rad community.
