Personalized Strength Training in a Small-Group Setting
Nervous about the gym? Not sure how to start strength training? Want more guidance than a group class offers?
The EVOLVE Foundations program gives you personalized strength coaching in a small-group setting, built around your body, your goals, and where you are right now.

How To Start
Try your first session
Your first session is free. No pressure, no commitment. Come in, meet your coach, and experience the program.
Share your history and goals
Your coach will ask for a few details before your first session to help design the right approach for you from day one.
Start building strength with the right dose
We aim for your first session to feel more manageable than you might expect. We want to gauge your current capacity and build it progressively — not overwhelm it on day one.
The EVOLVE Foundations Approach
Most people who come to Foundations aren’t starting from zero — they’re starting from somewhere complicated. A past surgery. A chronic condition. Years away from the gym. A body that’s been through a lot.
Standard group classes weren’t built for that. Most gyms aren’t built for that.
Foundations was.
Every session is built around your specific movement history, your current capacity, and where you’re trying to go. It’s also progressive — meaning we’re always building toward something, not just filling an hour. And your coach sees you enough to actually notice when something needs to be adjusted.
Strength Training is For Everyone
After their first month, we commonly hear Foundations members say things like:
"I like it so much more than I thought I would."
“I didn’t realize strength training doesn’t have to hurt.”
“I never thought I’d enjoy being in a gym.”
“I’m capable of so much more than I realized.”
We love hearing these —because they tell us that the program is working — but they also remind us that the opposite of these beliefs is still so common.
Many people assume they will not like strength training, that it will hurt, or that their body is no longer capable, when really they just have not been given an approach that is right for them.
Foundations is built to change that. The goal is not to force people into a version of training that does not fit. It is to help them find a starting point that feels safe, doable, and empowering — and then build from there.
Frequently Asked Questions
Have hesitations? Let’s talk about them.
How is this different from EVOLVE Strong?
EVOLVE Strong is our group strength class — up to 15 people per session, following the same program together, with coaches who can adapt movements for individual needs.
Foundations is semi-private — capped at 5 people per session, with each participant following their own individualized program. Your coach knows your history and tailors exercises specifically to you.
Foundations is a better fit if you have a more complex injury history, movement limitations, or want a more personalized on-ramp into strength training. EVOLVE Strong is a better fit if you’re ready to train in a group and want the energy and variety that comes with it.
Is Foundations right for me, or should I try EVOLVE Strong?
Foundations is probably the right starting point if:
- You’re early in your return from an injury, surgery, or significant time off
- You have a complex movement history that needs consistent one-on-one attention
- You’re new to strength training and feel like you need more guidance than a group setting provides
EVOLVE Strong is probably the right starting point if:
- You can get up and down from the floor, climb a flight of stairs, and put something on a shelf overhead — without pain
- You’re newer to training but don’t have significant injury limitations
- You want the energy, community, and variety of a coached group program
Not sure? Reach out and we’ll help you figure it out. There’s no wrong answer — and your coach can always help you transition between programs as you build strength and confidence.
Is Foundations physical therapy?
Some people stay in Foundations long-term and love it.
Many Foundations clients transition into EVOLVE Strong when they’re ready. Others stay in Foundations because they prefer the smaller setting and personalized programming. Your coach will work the right long-term plan for you when the time comes.
The goal is always to keep you moving forward — not to keep you in a box.
What happens after Foundations? Is this a forever program?
No. Foundations is a strength and conditioning program, not a specific clinical or healthcare service. It’s designed by a Doctor of Physical Therapy, and it can accommodate a wide range of movement histories and modifications — but it’s not a substitute for one-on-one physical therapy if you’re currently dealing with pain or an injury.
If you’re in pain or unsure whether you’re ready, we’d recommend starting with a physical therapy evaluation first. We can address the pain and help you transition into Foundations when the time is right.
I’m coming from physical therapy at EVOLVE. Is Foundations the right next step?
Often, yes — but not always. Your physical therapist will help you figure out the right transition plan, and Foundations is frequently part of that.
If you are finishing PT with us, or if you are not sure where to start and begin with a PT session first, your Doctor of Physical Therapy can help bridge that gap. They can assess your movement, consider your diagnosis and injury history, trial exercises, gauge your response, and give our coaching team a clear structure for where to begin. Your coach will also be briefed on your history, so you are not starting from scratch.
Foundations is not physical therapy, but it is often the step that comes after physical therapy. Many people do not need more PT to get back to full capability. They need a thoughtful plan to build strength, tolerance, and confidence over time — and that usually happens best in the gym, with coaching and progressive programming.
I have [specific condition / surgery / limitation]. Can Foundations accommodate that?
Usually yes — that’s a big part of what Foundations is designed for. However, you might benefit from a physical therapy evaluation first, so our physical therapists can give the Foundations coaching team a clear and structured starting point for you. Contact us before your first session and we’ll be help determine the best starting point.
Can I drop in occasionally, or do I need a monthly membership?
Foundations operates on a monthly membership model because your coach is building a progressive, personalized program for you. Drop-ins don’t work as well for that kind of continuity. Your first session is always free.
Is there a long-term contract or initiation fee?
No. You can pause or cancel with 7 days’ notice. No long-term commitment.
My schedule is unpredictable. What if I miss sessions?
Your Foundations membership includes open gym access, so you can still come in on your own if you miss a scheduled session. Talk to your coach about how to structure those independent visits.
If your schedule is very unpredictable and Foundations’ set schedule doesn’t work for you, our personal training options may be a better fit — they offers more scheduling flexibility.
