Introducing EVOLVE Performance Training
"DO WHAT YOU LOVE, FOR LIFE."
Since the beginning, our goal at EVOLVE Flagstaff is to help you do what you love, for life. We want to help you feel and look great, to overcome injuries, prevent chronic disease, and live your life to the fullest.
To better fulfill that mission, we are incredibly excited to announce that EVOLVE Flagstaff will be expanding to a larger space in downtown Flagstaff. We’ll be moving from our current 350 square foot office to a 2,400 square foot clinic and training space. This move will provide the following dedicated private offices for our Registered Dietitian and Physical Therapist, allowing for more available treatment times and less distraction. We’ll also have a state of the art strength and conditioning equipment with ample space to train.
What’s most exciting about this move is that we will launching a Performance Training Program to help you to do what you love, for life. It’s much more than just a workout program or a gym membership. It’s an advanced, comprehensive system design to make you stronger, healthier, and more resilient. It incorporates specific strength and movement training, nutrition intervention, injury prevention, and a like-minded community. We meet you where you are at, and help you to reach your potential.
We've beta-tested this program over the past year, and have honed it to address all of the most common problems that people encounter while pursuing an active lifestyle. We’ve found that most people make one of more of these top 4 mistakes:
1. Don’t have an integrated system
When it comes to your health, there is an overwhelming amount of things you can try. The latest fad diet, the newest workout trend, the advice of your mother, brother, coworker, the newest article from Outside Magazine. A quick google search gives you a mind-boggling amount of information, with strong opinions on all sides.
In the midst of this information overload, what most people lack is an integrated system. They might try something here and there, or briefly dabble in what catches their attention. Or, they’re dedicated to one pillar, such as running or yoga, but don’t have a system to incorporate other crucial elements.
How do you take the most important and life changing nutrition and exercise habits, and make them daily habits? How do you organize this information so that you can efficiently take action -- and then get on with the rest of your life?
EVOLVE’s Performance Training Program provides this integrated system to help you distill the most important behaviors into a comprehensive and effective routine.
2. Don’t leverage the power of resistance training
Resistance training is usually the lowest hanging and most overlooked fruit across our entire client population. Whether you are looking to overcome nagging injuries, improve your body composition, or age without pain, resistance training that is one of the most effective tools at our disposal.
However, many people don't perform any type of resistance training, for one of a few reasons:
You don't know how and are afraid of injuring yourself.
You have a history of injuries (or are currently injured) and find it difficult to train without pain.
You've tried it but either didn't see results, or couldn't work it into your schedule.
We also have many clients who spend time doing some type of strength training, but they are missing key elements. This is usually in the form of improper technique, lack of progressive loading, or improper program design. Unfortunately, resistance and strength training is not always easy or straightforward. Without specialized experience, it can be difficult to implement a strength program on your own and see consistent results over time
Additionally, if people do start increasing their workload with resistance training, nutrition is often overlooked. This is common among those trying to lose weight or change body composition. Unfortunately, the “calories in calories out” is too simplistic, and does it allow your body to adapt to increased work loads and recovery. Every day, we see people who have increased their physical activity but not changed how they eat and are not seeing results. Not only do they not see results, they also often end up injured.
That's exactly why we developed this program: to help you use strength training in a way that is safe, effective, and focused, so that you can become stronger and more resilient with decreased injury risk.
3. Are not consistent over time
Even the best nutrition or exercise program means nothing if it is not followed. Too many of our clients come to us with a history of starting a new habit with enthusiasm, only to see that excitement wane over time until they discard it altogether.
Often, the key to long term health isn’t anything sexy, but doing the fundamentals well and consistently over time. While this sounds simple, it can be difficult to achieve in our busy lives. Almost everyone gets busy at work, travels from time to time, has extended family visit, or has some other event come up that makes their health and fitness temporarily less of a priority. It is incredibly valuable to have a coach help hold you accountable and adjust your plan to fit your real life.
At EVOLVE, you will not be an anonymous member. Unlike other gyms, our business model doesn’t rely on members who sign up but then don’t ever step foot into the facility after day 1. While you will still have to show up and do the work, we’ll be there with you every step of the way to help you be as consistent as possible over time.
4. Don’t have a supportive community
Making positive lifestyle change is hard work. You can’t do it in a vacuum. Other people in your life will see that you are trying new things, exercising more, eating differently, and perhaps looking better as well. A key part of consistency is having a supportive, like-minded community to help hold you accountable and reinforce the positive changes that you are making. Even well-intentioned friends or family don’t always understand what you’re doing, and this can erode your motivation over time.
Having a supportive, like-minded community is essential to making healthy changes last a lifetime. At EVOLVE, you’ll be surrounded by others in your community who are on the same journey as you. Whether it’s a high-five after a tough workout, a text message at 5:30am to help you get to your 6am strength training session, talking about new recipes or nutrition habits, a community workshop to delve deeper into key topics, or just catching up while foam rolling, a sense of community can make every aspect of the Performance Training Program more powerful.
Again, the EVOLVE Performance Training Program is much more than just a gym membership or a workout program. It’s the synthesis of everything we know about how to keep an individual healthy and resilient over the long term.

Individualized group training
You’ll receive an individualized training plan, tailored to your goals, injury history, and schedule.
The majority of this training is performed in a group setting to provide coach supervision, build community and accountability, and keep program costs low.
If you participate in another activity or sport outside of the gym, as most of our community members do, we will ensure that your program complements your activity. We can also help you program your endurance workouts to reduce the risk of overuse injury, and design a nutrition program to keep you fueled and performing at your best.
Strength coach instruction
All training is supervised by a strength coach or Doctor of Physical Therapy. The coach’s job is to improve your technique, modify your program, and ensure that you’re progressing to meet your goals.
Personalized programming for long term development
This is how we make sure you get from A to B. We follow a standards-based model that progresses athletes through various levels, each designed with a specific purpose and plan in mind. Our programming at each level is based upon gender, injury history, sport, goals, age, and injury screening. As you become more advanced as an athlete, so does your programming.
This model is designed to not only increase athlete performance, but also make you more resistant to injury. Before focusing on any performance goals, all risk factors for a future injury will be addressed. This progressive plan allows us enough time to create a solid foundation of technique and proper mechanics in the beginning levels. By reinforcing proper motor patterns, we not only help prevent injury in the gym, but also on the trail, in the mountains, or on the field. Once the proper lifting mechanics are mastered, we begin to increase the load and harness the exponential benefits of of performance training.
One-on-one on-boarding session
We offer a one-on-one on-boarding session that is free for all individuals interested in learning more about our product and system. The purpose of this session is to explain the performance training program and what makes us different at EVOLVE Flagstaff, give a tour of the facility, determine your goals to create a program individualized for you, and get you started with you some basic lifting movements.

Habit-based nutrition program
In addition to your training program, all members will receive a habit-based nutrition program to help them cultivate a foundation of healthy eating. We find this is exponentially more effective than giving you a meal plan. Diets don’t work. We will teach you how to eat, for life.

Weekly mobility and recovery class
When you’re burning the candle at both ends, downregulating is essential. This weekly class helps to improve how you feel, move, and recover.
Quarterly performance testing
Every 4 months we perform research-backed, sport-specific performance testing on a quarterly basis to ensure that you’re seeing the progress you want and determine if we need to modify your program.
Quarterly injury screening
Along with performance testing, we also perform quarterly injury screening assessments to address any potential issues as early as possible.
These screenings are important because they will allow us to detect changes that naturally occur due to competition, training, stress, or other factors This means that a measurement at the beginning of a year could become worse due to sport, other physical activity, or life events By monitoring these changes, we can focus on any issues or concerns, and work to prevent more serious injuries from occurring.
Muscle activation and coordination drills
All of the training programs have specific muscle activation and coordination drills included to improve balance, movement patterns, and control. This helps to build athleticism, confidence, and resilience to injury.
Customized App
- We use a sophisticated custom software application provides workout and nutrition tracking, performance testing, program progression, and more.
You will have access the workouts whenever you need them, and the ability to track your workouts and progress with your coach.

When you become a Performance Training member, you are getting access to all of our member benefits. You're not simply paying to access a gym, but to become part of the EVOLVE community, supported by a comprehensive system that distills years of clinical training and professional experience.
We have two membership levels:
- $150 per month for all of the member benefits and unlimited training. The is the best value and way to access all that EVOLVE has to offer. We'll build a training plan based on your goals and scheduled (often 2-3x per week), but you can come to EVOLVE as often as you'd like to train, recover, or mobilize.
- $95 for all of the member benefits and once-per-week training, or online-only training. This must be done consistently over a period of time.
